Indian Rupees to the US Dollar:

Earlier this week I was recounting my tale of being in Turkey in 2003 when the currency notes in circulation were 1 million lira notes and 10 million lira notes. 1 million lira bought a cup of coffee; 10 million lira could buy a book. Both notes had 1 followed by a string of zeroes with no commas or periods; both had Atatürk's picture, and they were very hard to tell apart at a glance. I learned to turn them over and read the Turkish words as the fastest way to distinguish them.

Aside from that minor challenge, this Byzantine history enthusiast had a wonderful visit, and Istanbul is one of the world's great cities.

The Indian ruble, at 90 to the dollar, is only half of the story. The dollar ain't what it used to be either. 1% of what it was in 1971 as measured in gold. How about Iran? 1.3 Million to the $.

I remember Argentina a few years back with Lira 20 to the dollar. $10 US bill could buy crab dinner for two with nice Argentinian whitr wine.
