At dinner here in Tokyo with Vic a young 'cub reporter' seems to have fallen for the notion in America that inequality is rampant; wealth is in the hands for the few. Vic demolishes the notion. To take it a step beyond I looked at some charts ..a 43% increase in millionaires since 2008, more wealthy people than any other country. America is still the land of opportunity and allows for upward mobility.

I would add however that the cub was no cub but the main producer and a very competent one of a major program on Nippon Tv about the future. She is planning an interview with Pikety, and Larry and I gave her a little food for thought. More important she accompanied Larry and me to a Tokyo Giants game, and we saw a 75 year old coach lead the team in 10 minutes of calisthenics 10 minutes before the game, berating all the laggards all the while. I commented that if a coach did that in the States he would doubtless be strangled. But the lesson of group harmony and orderliness before a performance should not be lost on all trading rooms.

    Why does Paul Tudor Jones think inequality is a major problem today? Is he a bumbling billionaire?

    On another note, what about spying? The US and Canada are becoming like East Germany. This alone should concern people. How come so few people will talk about the potential clashes between advances in technology and human nature and freedom?

    I am very skeptical about the “Transhumanism” movement and its idea to “liberate” people. To me, it is much more about controlling people, it is about Technocracy.

    Do you not find it a little ironic that you would not publish my other post about “the people of the book” and the warnings in the old testament about inequality - and - that you claim to be of this group and don’t believe in any of it? Idol worship includes things made with the hands …. money and technology.

    There was a reason why that calf was golden when Moses came down from mount Sinai. I also believe that the word Jew itself may be a reminder to Jews to keep moderation in tact. It also doesn’t come into the old testament until 2nd Kings. Also, Canaan means merchant. Do you not see how this could possibly be a curse too? One must do best to obey moderation.

    As for the Senator claiming the country is the land of opportunity and there are many more millionaires, one has to remember that money is worth less and generally things are more expensive. One still has to do ones best to keep ones mouth sewn shut while climbing the ladder of “opportunity.” Just look at all the Billionaires and their comfortable relationships with government and banks.

    The older I get, the less I care about being wealthy and the more I care about truth.

    So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

    Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”

    For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

    Sure, you are right. Before there were food stamps how was the relationship of middle class to the ones who were on welfare?
