Weekly Update:  Change of Season. Please!

There are signs of life, but no rally. Wall
Street seems iced in. But hope springs
eternal. Spring thaws will come, and with
them a new earnings season and a chance
to break out.

Meanwhile, today's GTI stock of the week
is Netlogic Microsystems (NETL). It was up
28%. With a 10% gain in the preceding
week, that makes 41% in two weeks.

NETL was added to the GTI only five weeks
ago. It has had a lively time of it, including
a miserable start. In three weeks, it fell 18%.
Was that a reverse Gilder Effect?

In the good old days, being selected by
the GTR invariably meant an immediate
and sizable boost for a stock. Alas, those
days are long gone.

Nowadays, the opposite may be the case.
It may be that short sellers seize on new
Gilder picks and then try to drive them
down. Perhaps they are hoping to recreate
the glory days of 2000 to 2002, when (in
their dreams, at least) they grew wealthy
shorting Gilder stocks.

If the market gods are going to replay
history, though, first let's have another
bubble (this time we'll know what to do).
And if not that, then how about a juicy
short squeeze?

Makeup of the GTI:

The GTI companies are those "Telecosm
Technologies" in the Gilder Technology
Report whose stock is readily available to
investors. If a company is not traded on the
NYSE, AMEX, or NASDAQ National Market,
it is not in the GTI.

This past week there were 28 companies in
the GTI. Advances vs. declines were:

12 up, 16 down, 0 unchanged.
