The Forest and Trees in Chess

The weakness of many chess players lies in an imbalance in their 'thinking hierarchy', the weight they assign to various factors in their mind. It's not uncommon to see players who are magnificent at seeing the trees but seem strangely blind to the forest. So it's good to remember that checkmate ends the game and that close to this is a ruinous loss of material. Things like outposts and structure come much further down the scale.
