True Stories by Steve Keely
Desert Exposure
The family that lives three miles up the road in Sand Valley, the Quicks, have a pet Macaw that you will meet if you visit. It pulls a cord that fans Ma Quick on hot summer days, picks earwax from Pa Quick’s old ear, and loves Boy Quick to death. Daughter Quick, who is nice but a little off, taught the Macaw to say, 'Screw you, come in' after a knock at the door. One hot day last year it was the sheriff's heavy fist... He later told fellow officers, ‘I heard someone say, ‘come in’ and everyone had their clothes off.’
